Please find below our latest Ofsted Inspection Report following our inspection on 28th and 29th January 2025.

We are delighted to share that the report highlights our school as "an exceptionally nurturing, happy and harmonious school," where "staff care greatly for every child and want the very best for all."

It recognises the high expectations we have for our pupils, who are described as "confident and highly positive learners who relish their learning."

The inspectors praised our pupils’ behaviour, noting that they are "remarkably courteous and follow instructions with thought and great consideration." They also commended our broad and ambitious curriculum, stating that "pupils achieve well across the curriculum," and highlighting the enriching experiences we offer, such as trips to the theatre, museums, and the seaside.

A particularly proud moment for us was reading that "pupils' personal development sits at the heart of the school's work," with children taking on leadership roles, fundraising for causes, and demonstrating maturity in discussing important topics such as diversity, respect, and inclusion.

We would like to thank our entire school community: our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and, most importantly, our wonderful pupils—for making our Infant School such a special place.

Garland Junior School

 Please find below our latest Ofsted Inspection Report following our inspection on 2nd and 3rd June 2026.

We are delighted to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection, the first since the formation of the Burghfield Common Federation and under our new leadership team.
This was also the first inspection under Ofsted’s new report card framework, making it a particularly significant milestone for our school. We are incredibly proud that Garland Junior School has been recognised as providing a Strong Standard for Personal Development and Wellbeing, with all other areas judged to be meeting the Expected Standard under the new framework. Most importantly, inspectors confirmed that our Safeguarding arrangements are effective and that children are safe, happy and well cared for. We believe these are the foundations that allow every child to flourish and it was wonderful to see this recognised so clearly by the inspection team.

This inspection acknowledged the considerable progress we have made in a relatively short period of time. Since becoming part of The Federation, our staff, governors and wider school community have worked hard to improve the quality of education. We were especially pleased that the inspection team recognised the rapid improvements that have taken place and the positive impact they are already having on pupils’ learning, experiences and outcomes.

One of the aspects that made us especially proud was hearing how confidently and politely our children spoke to inspectors about their learning and their experiences at school. They talked with enthusiasm, explained how their learning connected to their lives and shared how much they enjoy coming to school. They demonstrated the confidence, curiosity and pride that we strive to develop in every child and were exceptional ambassadors for Garland Junior School.

The report celebrates many of the strengths that we see every day, including:
• our calm, purposeful and welcoming school environment
• the significant improvements in behaviour, attendance and pupils’ attitudes to learning
• the rich range of clubs, trips, residential visits and wider opportunities that help children develop beyond the classroom
• the caring relationships between staff and pupils, ensuring every child feels valued and supported
• the strong pastoral care provided for children and families
• the commitment of staff to ensuring every child succeeds.

We were pleased that inspectors understood our vision of “discovering every child’s sparkle”, commenting on how pupils feel noticed and celebrated for their individual strengths. Inspectors also noted the positive culture we have created, where children enjoy learning, feel safe and demonstrate kindness, respect and responsibility towards one another.

We are also proud that the report recognises the improvements that have been made in behaviour, attendance, the quality of teaching, leadership and the wider opportunities available to our pupils.

Like any good inspection, the report also identifies next steps. We welcome these because they align closely with our own improvement priorities. We will continue to strengthen handwriting and spelling so that pupils’ writing continues to improve, while embedding the same consistently high-quality teaching across the wider curriculum.

We are excited about this next stage of our journey and are confident that we are well placed to
continue building on the strong foundations now established.

We are delighted with this outcome and proud of everything that has been achieved together and continue to be ambitious for every child. This report shows how far Garland Junior School has come in a relatively short time, but it also marks another important milestone in our journey. We will continue striving for even higher standards, ensuring that every child receives the very best education, opportunities and care so that they continue to achieve, belong and thrive.
